friday fluctuations of the asian persuasion

An Asian woman traveling in Australia goes into a local Bank Branch and begins exchanging her money.

After the transaction is complete she asks the teller 'Why it change, yesterday I get two hunat dollar for my money, today I only get hunat eighty?'

The teller looked over his glasses and says very slowly....'fluctuations'.

The Asian woman narrows her eyes and says,

'fluck you Aussies too'

the jar of life

i got an email from a colleague this morning and it's one of those i just had to share....

When things in your life seem, Almost too much to handle,
When 24 Hours in a day is not enough,
Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class
And had some items in front of him.
When the class began, wordlessly,
He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar
And proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students, If the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured
them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open Areas between the golf balls.

He then asked The students again
If the jar was full.. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand
And poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded
With an unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced Two cups of coffee from under the table
And poured the entire contents Into the jar, effectively
Filling the Empty space between the sand.
The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor, As the laughter subsided,
'I want you to recognize that This jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things - God, family,
children, health, Friends, and Favorite passions –
Things that if everything else was lost
And only they remained, Your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter Like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else --
The small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' He continued,
'there is no room for The pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time And energy on the small stuff,
You will never have room for The things that are
Important to you.

So...

Pay attention to the things That are critical to your happiness.
Play With your children.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time
To clean the house and fix the disposal.

'Take care of the golf balls first --
The things that really matter.
Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand
And inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled.
'I'm glad you asked'.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,
there's always room for A couple of cups of coffee with a friend.'

a crime of passion

some things take time...

"Someday someone will walk into your life
and make you realize
why it never worked out with anyone else."

last night

sometimes we take life too seriously, and what fun is there when you not enjoying the journey?

last night i attended a networking dinner organised by mike stopforth entrepreneur and general fabulous guy. it was great fun. kath roderick from microsoft south africa spoke and was very interesting. what an top girl. she is interesting, intelligent and so down-to earth.

once the formalities were over there was an Xbox Guitar Hero World Tour tournament, where you get yourself into a "band" guitarist, basist, singer and drummer, and show of your rock star skills Xbox style! now, i'm no gamer or musician (although i did do music as a subject at school, i never continued after high school), but i'm always up for anything. everyone participated which was even more fun, cheering and whoot whooting!

then "front street girls" made their appearance - me - sugabunny - on vocals (cough cough), mel - artist formerly known as princess - on drums - in a skirt - how hot! pal - rocker - on bass (what a cool chick) and ange - angel star - on lead. you HAD to be there...

we did our own rendition of Nirvana's "about a girl" and we ROCKED! i mean... of course!

in the end, i won a shopping voucher for Sandton City - wait for it - R1500 ($150 USD) for being best singer!! haha... measured by the Guitar Hero game... how RANDOM and fun!

made me realise that sometimes i take life way to seriously and i really need to get out more and have some fun! plus i made new friends, which is fab!!

remember, life is too short to take too seriously, so enjoy everyday, let your hair down, dance in the rain, smile at a stranger, compliment the one you love (how often do we criticize?), spoil yourself, change your job if you not happy, enjoy the wind on your face and feel alive, build a puzzle, sit on the grass, go fishing, sing in front of strangers... do things that make your soul smile!!

breakfasts, birthdays, bbq's, baby's, breakups

what a wild weekend! there is nothing better in life that great friends, great food and great moments of letting go... but great friends are hard to come by.

we had the most fun girls night on friday... great to remember, i'm sure some of us wish we could... tequilla is always a good idea at the time... we danced, we laughed, we caught up... it was a blast! oh and did i mention i met rijk neetling? famous south african swimmer... and yes, i had a pic taken with him! hehee... i'm SUCH a poser!

rijk ~ heavenly

when it comes to some friends, you know that the 'sell by date' is soon coming... that happend when i went to my friends bday celebration at a club down the road, (after a WILD time at the Baron in Sandton with my favourite girlfriends... )... and she practically ignored me completely after begggggggging me to come... anyway... long time coming... point is, when u know a friendship is over, best to keep on moving... and i don't really feel bad about it! onward and upward!

moema's

if you live in Jozi you have to go to the Jozi food market on saturdays. its so much fun. jules and i did that, and ended up at Moema's. a fabulously quaint cafe slash deli that offers a different menu every few weeks, and has the most amazing food.

food market

all the girls came over to our place for a bbq (braai for the local SA's) and vino vino vino on saturday evening! we are all in our late 20's early 30's and we are all walking different paths.... some going overseas, some not sure where to next, some having babies, some getting involved, others getting un-volved... and those chasing their career... yet we all have one common thread and that is the search for true love! someone special to share the good times with, someone to hold you when you cry, someone to share an ice-cream with... you know... the small things in life!

on sunday i visited my friend and her new born baby Emma!!! HOOOOOWWWW cute can one baby be! made me so broody, and now i totally understand Kitty's overwhelming desire to procreate! ah man, baby's just smell so nice, they so cute, little finger and tiny toes... i want one... e-bay, here i come ;p

emma little princess!!

seems like so many couples around me are breaking up, and it makes me wonder... what does it take to stay strong and together during difficult times? are some relationships just doomed or do some just come to a surprise halting end? even if we see it coming, are we ever prepared?

a very full weekend... one of the best in Jozi so far!!!

six random things about me

i love being tagged! funfunfun!

Sass is a fabulous blogger - and i just love her writing style... and the way in which she gives us a perfectly honest and frank view into her very interesting life. you'd love to follow her!

she has tagged me in a meme, and how could i resist?

the rules:
1. link to the person who tagged you.
2. post the rules on your blog.
3. write six random things about yourself.
4. tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. let each person know they’ve been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
6. let the tagger know when your entry is up.

six things about me

1. me? a GYPSY! i was on a local site looking at things to do in Jozi, and i found an add. "looking for gypsy actress, for party". so i responded. got a reply. met up with this great girl. she's having a fancy dress party and wants to hire a gypsy to 'read' people. she'll give me info on them, and i will pretend to "know" things about them. at the end of the night, she'll let the cat out of the bag. i'm doing this next week. will keep you posted. think it will be fun. PLUS i get paid for it! how random!!

2. i sometimes regret moving to joburg. i've been here 6 months, and its been a rough ride. i miss my flat in camps bay, the people i used to work with and my brother. i miss the ocean and the view i had and i miss walking on the promenade after work. but what i do like about joburg is my actual job here. its fun, its creative and i'm learning alot. and that is the reason i moved. so thats positive. i'll go back to cape town one day, but for now, i must remember to enjoy where i am, and the fabulous friends i have here. i just need to get out more and meet more fab people!

3. i can dance all night. give me heels, a great top (i'm a jeans girl wherever i go) and a bit of mac and my hair straightner and i will rock the night away! i love partying and love dancing with my girl friends. we have so much fun together and don't give a shite about anyone else. we pull out all the moves and have a blast wherever we go.

4. my brother and i always play tricks on each other. and now that we're far apart we do this over the phone. i'll call him and at the end of the conversation be like... oh and by the way.. i'm pregnant (even tho i have a girlfriend). and he'll be silent, and then say... oooh, congrats... but not sure if i'm being serious or not. then i'll burst out laughing. and he'll call me a cow and we'll laugh.... its just the two of us, he's 4 years younger, we're really close and i just love him to bits!

matt, person, brother

5. i am a sushi slut. i can eat sushi every day. i just love it. one of my favourite places is Orient at Melrose Arch... a fab venue and great sushi! and FiSH in Rosebank is a gem, esp half price Tuesday! And of course, cocktails to go with it! (if you live in Jozi and go to the Orient, order the lotus martini to go with your sushi... heaven.in.a.glass!)

6. i am determined to get healthy and shed more than 15kg's this year. being over weight is over. i'm enjoying a healthy eating plan and gym... already losing the kg's so hold thumbs for me!

And that is me!

now pop on over to the sensational sass and read her 6 randomosities (no that's not a real word)

tagged shmagged:

kitty, brazen, vodka mom, superficial girl, blondeblogshell, and bodlybenny
6 fabulous reads i don't go a day without!

be honest with yourself

smile...

no-one needs a smile as much as the person who fails to give one

in everything there is change...

we resist change
because it takes us into the discomfort
of the unfamiliar.
change is sacred opportunity
to expand into MORE!
[clive fox 2009]

change ultimately leads to growth, and sometimes what we see as a block or a wall against us, is in fact a process of learning new strengths and life showing us how capable we really are. there is universal change, there is change in the seasons, every day we are growing and evolving and learning, and seeing, and understanding, and experiencing, and all these experiences are changing and challenging the way we think, and feel and interact, and dream.

embrace change - planned or unplanned - because the result will always be in a wiser and stronger person, who has learnt more about what you want, and what you don't, who you are and who you want to be, and possibly, who you forgot you are and ultimately and often we discover a gift within us that we never saw before.

beauty

life is full of beauty

notice it

notice the butterfly
the small child

the flower on the pathway
the clouds passing by
the smiling faces
smell the rain, and feel the wind
be present wherever you are
live your life to the fullest potential
pursue your dreams
life is full of beauty
and that beauty is you

how hot!

we love them, we can't get enough of them, flat, high, black or devilish red, shoes are the ultimate "chocolate cake" replacement on a bad day!

don't you just love these killer heels?
enough to make any girl (or cross dressing boy) smile :)

at $825.00 a pop, these Alexander McQueen Heart peep-toe pumps are but a dream!
but who says dreaming isnt' fun!
plus, if you find the rip off anywhere... let me know!

lesson from the lotus flower...

"As a lotus flower is born in water, grows in water and rises out of water to stand above it unsoiled, so I, born in the world, raised in the world having overcome the world, live unsoiled by the world"

Hindu Prince Gautama Siddharta, the founder of Buddhism, 563-483 B.C.

it's been a while... again

the first 17 days of the new year has been pretty good... but work has kept me totally busy and I have had no time to catch up on your blogs or even post my on my own!

hopefully things will get back to as "normal" as normal is... and you'll be seeing and hearing more from me!

sometimes life is tough, and gets us down, and we have to dig deep to find the courage to keep going...

just like climbing a mountain... there are easy parts, and tough parts... times when there is a stone in your shoe, and times when you feel like you don't have the energy to go another step... but step by step is how you get to the top... the journey might be difficult... but when you get to the top.... wow, what a view!

don't let the anything get in the way of achieving your goals and dreams... this year is a year to discover what it is that you want and to put everything you have into that dream, to achieve it. why dream it? do it! and when things get tough, and you want to give up... remember that the "view" is going to be worth it!

anything worth anything is worth the risk!

Life is good

coffee?

This morning I got an email from a friend, and this is what it said...

Life is like having a cup of coffee,
You sit by the side of the window,
Lift the cup and take a careless sip...
Only to realize somebody forgot to add sugar.

Too lazy to go for it…
You somehow struggle through the sugarless cup
Until you discover undissolved sugar crystals
Sitting at the bottom.

That’s how life is,
We do not make any effort to value what is around or within us
So look around
Maybe the sweetness you are looking for is closer than you think.
